SCADA & RTAC programming

Fractal designs, procures, installs, and programs the RTACs that connect your BESS to the grid — off-site to the utility, TSP, QSE and ISO, and on-site to meters, transformers and breakers.

SCADA/RTAC is part of the Full Scope package, extending Base + Networking + Cyber with substation functionality and off-site telemetry. Fractal provides and programs one or more RTACs, handles end-to-end engineering and procurement, and coordinates the full SCADA points list — backed by a 98–99.5% availability guarantee.

What the RTACs do

Telemetry & dispatch

High-speed processing for utility, QSE, TSP and ISO telemetry and dispatch. Reads all market data (analog & digital I/O) — meter data and BESS status (SOC, energy/power available, units online, HSL/LSL) — while the ISO/QSE writes dispatch and control to select registers (AGC, awarded MW capacity, breaker trips).

Utility / off-taker data server

A separate, network-segmented RTAC serving non-market data. Fractal programs it with the customer's pre-selected points (meters, site controller, OEM equipment) and translates them into the desired protocol.

Substation & equipment integration

Aggregates site data (MET stations, trackers, transformer I/O) and integrates the substation — breakers, relays, LTCs, capacitor-bank controllers and meters — writing control to select devices for complete balance-of-plant management. Provided by Fractal or the EPC per project responsibility.

Active power setpoint adjustments within defined limits, based on real-time battery availability.

Asset supervision & protection

Supervises critical limits and operational capacities to safeguard asset integrity.

Add-ons

GPS time synchronization

Integration with a third-party GPS clock for precise time sync of the RTAC and connected devices — recommended for sites without existing time-sync infrastructure.

Additional integrations

Up to two third-party integrations are included; additional entities (e.g., energy traders, QSEs) are available as an add-on.
